You must first pass all requirements to be a Sheriff’s Posse member. (See training in all about posse section.). You may apply to the Jeep Posse after completing the basic requirements. You must be able to obtain Q.A.P. level either before joining the Jeep posse or immediately there after.
If you are currently with another posse you must be a member in good standing. Your current posse commander must sign a letter of transfer.
You must attend the state Search and Rescue (SAR) Academy.
You must have a suitable “police type” vehicle. Four-Wheel-Drive (4x4) vehicles are preferred; however certain passenger cars such as a Crown Victoria, Caprice, Charger, and Taurus are acceptable. The Jeep Posse Governing Board retains the final approval of vehicles. Preferred vehicle colors are white or black but other colors may be acceptable. The determining factor is how the vehicle will look with Sheriff Insignia applied.
Your vehicle must be licensed/insured and properly equipped as per the Jeep Posse regulations (lights, siren, first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flares, etc). The vehicle must be able to pass the annual inspection performed by MCSO.
You will be required to have a Search (Channel 8) VHF radio.
Yearly dues are $60 and payable in January or at the time you are accepted as a full member. Dues are pro-rated from the time you are accepted as a full member.
Jeep Posse members are expected to work a minimum of 150 hours yearly. These hours can include meetings, training, and travel time to/from details. If you join the Jeep Posse, we expect you to work.
You must maintain your certifications and re-certify each year (such as OSHA, Judgmental Shooting, and Firearms).
